Chelsea plan Cahill move to sure up defence

Chelsea are interested in bringing Gary Cahill to Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window, The Telegraph reports.

Chelsea have been uncharacteristically shaky defensively so far this season and Andre Villas-Boas is thought to view Cahill as a possible solution to solidify the frailty. The 25 year-old Bolton defender has been the subject of interest from long-term admirers Arsenal as well as Tottenham Hotspur and with his contract ending next summer, Bolton are desperate not to lose the centre-back on a free transfer.

Sunday’s defeat to rivals Liverpool was Chelsea’s fourth loss in 12 games and the Blues have already equalled their total number of home defeats in 2010 (2). It was also the club’s third defeat in their last 4 Premier League outing and some are already losing patience with Villas-Boas.

Chelsea have travelled to Germany as they prepare to face Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday evening where they know a win will secure their passage to the Champions League knock-out phase.
