Ehiogu: Jones must start in defence for England

Former England defender Ugo Ehiogu has stated that Manchester United youngster Phil Jones must start in defence for England, talkSPORT reports.

Jones played in midfield against Spain on Saturday and performed admirably considering the task he faced against Spanish wizards such as Xavi, Andres Iniesta and David Silva. Ehiogu, who enjoyed a good playing career with both England and in the Premier League, has now called for England boss Fabio Capello to play Jones where he will perform best.

‘I’ve seen Phil Jones and he has been outstanding at centre-half and on occasions right-back, so why not play him where he is best. It’s a compliment to him that he can be put into midfield but you can’t tell me there wasn’t someone else that could have done a similar job’, Ehiogu said.
