Fletcher eyes win over Newcastle to keep up with City

Darren Fletcher wants Manchester United to crank up the pressure on league leader Manchester City by beating Newcastle United this weekend, Sky Sports reports.

United trail their local rivals by five points and can reduce the gap to two points if they beat Newcastle on Saturday. City do not play until Sunday against Liverpool at Anfield and they are under pressure to qualify from the groups of the Champions League, so United are looking to pressure.

Fletcher has seen enough of these tight title chases involving the Premier League champions and knows that if they play well and keep performing as they can, then United will make up the gap with City quickly.

The Scottish international said: ‘The only results we can control are our own. But we know if we play to the level we are capable of, then we can win matches and put Manchester City under pressure. We need to respond as quickly as possibly by trying to get a win against Newcastle.’
