Friedel eager for new Tottenham deal

Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel has indicated that he wants to sign a new deal with Spurs and extend his playing days, according to ESPN.

Friedel was signed on a free transfer in the summer and Spurs boss Harry Redknapp took a gamble with the 40 year old American. However, the gamble paid off and the American goalkeeper has produced a series of displays to keep Brazilian shot-stopper Heurelho Gomes on the sidelines.

The former Aston Villa man is contracted to Spurs until the end of next season and feels that he can extend his playing career further. Friedel claims that the input of nutritionists and sports scientists make it easier for players to push back their retirement dates.

‘If you can keep yourself free of major injury and you want to keep playing, then you can go much longer than an outfield player could. It can be done if you want it and I do. My body doesn’t feel the way someone might think a 40 year old should feel’, the American said.
