The 24-year-old cost the Sky Blues £7m when he signed back in 2010 and has at times had a testing relationship with his Italian manager, but the latter is hard on Johnson to help him improve.
“If he were not a good player, I wouldn’t waste my time on him. But, because he has everything, I don’t want him stopping at this level.” Said Mancini.
Johnson hopes that signing a new contract will help his chances of going to the European Championships in 2012, after he missed out on the last World Cup in South Africa.
