Jones set for England midfield spot against Spain

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson advised England boss Fabio Capello to play Phil Jones in midfield against Spain today, The Daily Star reports.

Jones played there for United against Liverpool in the 1-1 draw last month and has also played there when he was at Blackburn. The United man has the difficulty of dealing with a Spain midfield filled with talents like Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Xabi Alonso, but Capello believes he is capable. The Italian is interested in bringing Jones into the midfield and wants to see what sort of qualities he has, so he could be deployed there in future.

Capello said: ‘I spoke with Sir Alex. Jones was in my mind when I met him in Manchester. Sir Alex said he could play there. I want to see him in midfield in a really important game. I think he’s got a lot of really good qualities. His potential is the top’.
