King to get new Spurs deal if target matched

Ledley King will be handed a new deal at the end of the season, the Daily Mail reports, provided he manages to play more than 20 games this season.

King, 31, suffers from chronic knee problems, which restrict his ability to train with the rest of the squad, and also mean he cannot usually play in more than one game per week. The central defender only managed nine appearances last season, but has already matched that figure this time around, so will need to make another eleven appearances in order to qualify for the new contract.

Speaking recently, King said, “I can play next season. Every player knows their body will tell them when it’s time to pack it in. Mine isn’t at the moment – there are a lot of games left in me.”
