League Two pacesetters Southend and Crawley dominate monthly award nominations

Frontrunners Southend and Crawley have had their continued impressive start to the season rewarded with two nominations apiece across the October League Two Player and Manager of the Month awards.

Paul Sturrock and Steve Evans have led their sides to an unbeaten month in the league and both are unsurprisingly up for the managerial gong. They are joined by Cheltenham manager Mark Yates and Oxford’s Chris Wilder who have overseen their sides catapult into the promotion picture with some impressive showings.

The Shrimpers’ elevation to the summit was aided no more than by winger Ryan Hall and his contributions have been recognised with a well deserved nomination. Meanwhile in an October that has seen them concede just five goals the Red Devils’ defensive lynchpin Claude Davis has been a key protagonist and will surely be the main rival for the creative Hall who is the joint leading assist maker in the dvision. Oxford are once again represented by goalkeeper Ryan Clarke while Aldershot striker Danny Hylton rounds off the shortlist.
