Liverpool are preparing to battle with Premier League champions Manchester United for the signing of Brazilian starlet Lucas Rodrigues, ESPN
Rodrigues was voted the best player in the South American under 20 Championships this year and Sao Paulo are bracing themselves for big bids from the Premier League clubs. The 19 year old has been scouted extensively by Liverpool, but has signed a contract that would keep him in Brazil until 2016. Rodrigues has ten caps for the Brazilian national side.
The Brazilian has drawn comparison with attacking midfielder Paul Scholes and has interested United to replace the recently retired midfielder. Liverpool are looking to strengthen the midfield even more after their summer signings of Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam.
Liverpool will also have to fight off Inter Milan and Juventus for Rodrigues’ signature, but Reds manager Kenny Dalglish is confident he can bring in the Brazilian midfielder.
