Martinez uninterested in Wigan style of football

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez is not looking to change the way his side play football or the way he will coach his players.

The Latics are struggling to get out of the relegation places, but Martinez is still keen to play the stylish football that he has instilled within his side. Pressure is on the Wigan boss after losing eight games in a row and a result is necessary for this weekend’s game against Blackburn Rovers.

Martinez will play his normal game against his fellow strugglers and look to get a win to lift the damp mood around the DW Stadium. The Wigan boss had the chance to go to Aston Villa in the summer, but is looking to build foundations at Wigan that will make them better in the long run.

‘You can lay strong foundations at your football club and slowly get better. To achieve more than just winning a game by having bodies forward and by reading the bounce of the ball. To achieve long-term success is very, very difficult. You need to have a clear style of football and be very good at it, there is no point in changing the style to get a result’, the Wigan manager said.
