Newcastle to swoop for Tottenham strikers

Newcastle United are taking a close look at both Jermain Defoe and Roman Pavlyuchenko, with a view to a January bid, reports The Metro.

The Spurs strikers have found themselves frozen out of first-team football at White Hart Lane recently, mainly due to the impressive form of Rafael van der Vaart and Emmanuel Adebayor, and the Russian Pavlyuchenko has already admitted he would prefer to move on in January.

It is thought that Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is desperate to bolster his striking options, and is considering tabling a £20million bid for the duo. Though with Newcastle in high-flying form and challenging Spurs for a place in the Champions League spots, Spurs gaffer Harry Redknapp may be reluctant to sell to a rival.
