Real Madrid tracking Man City midfielder De Jong

Real Madrid are considering making a £20 million bid for Manchester City midfielder Nigel De Jong as the Dutchman awaits improved terms on a new contract, according to Metro.

De Jong’s current deal expires at the end of next season, but City officials have put talks on hold until the end of the 2011/12 campaign due to a huge difference in opinion as to how much the 26-year-old should earn.

He is hopeful of doubling his wages of £55,000 to put him on par with his superstar teammates at the Etihad Stadium, but the board are unconvinced he should be in the same bracket as the likes of Sergio Aguero and David Silva.

As a result, Jose Mourinho is now monitoring the situation closely and may make a move for the player when the transfer window re-opens in January.
