Redknapp rules out Defoe sale

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has stated that striker Jermain Defoe will not leave the club in January, The London Evening Standard reports.

Defoe has not seen a lot of game time in recent weeks, largely down to the tremendous form of Emmanuel Adebayor. The striker has been frustrated at his lack of chances, but scored yesterday to give Spurs the lead in their 3-1 win over West Brom. Defoe has seen his England chances dwindle and is concerned that staying at Spurs will cost him a place in England’s Euro 2012 squad. Premier League new boys Queens Park Rangers are interested in Defoe, but Redknapp, who has worked with the England international at West Ham and Portsmouth prior to Spurs, insists that Defoe is going nowhere.

Redknapp also called for Defoe to be patient and wait for his chances: ‘I wouldn’t sell him (Defoe). He’s a fantastic player, but he’s just been unlucky. There are other lads who deserve to be in the team, but we’re playing well and I can’t change it. I had a good chat with him during the week. He will get his opportunities and he will take them’.
