Rooney happy with midfield role

Wayne Rooney believes he has the quality to play anywhere for United after his impressive display in central midfield in the 2-0 win over Otelul Galati, manutd.com reports.

The Reds striker was a surprise choice to move into central midfield, but Rooney himself believes he has the tools to succeed in the new role. Rooney revealed that he played a lot there when he was younger and he is accustomed to doing both defending and attacking in that position.

Rooney scored a deflected effort to round off the night for the Premier League champions and he is looking forward to the next fixture against Sunderland, where he may be deployed in that position once again.

‘I’ve said it before, I’m a good enough footballer to play anywhere on the pitch. I feel I’m capable of doing that. If the manager wants to play me there, I’ve no problem doing that. I played there a lot when I was younger. You get a lot of the ball there’, Rooney said.
