Spanish left-back top of Man Utd shopping list

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has listed Jordi Alba as a transfer target as he looks to the Spanish Primera Division for new signings, Metro has revealed.

The left-back has been a key player for Valencia over the last two years and his displays have caught the attention of Barcelona, where he spent eight years as a youngster, but United have also shown an interest in the 22-year-old. Sir Alex Ferguson is in the market for a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra and Alba is seen as the ideal candidate as he has Champions League experience with Valencia.

The Red Devils are also looking for a central midfielder and are understood to be closely monitoring Athletic Bilbao’s Javi Martinez and Bruno Soriano of Villarreal.
