Spurs are set to smash their wage cap to keep Luca Modric at White Hart Lane next season, according to the Daily
The Croatian was subject to several high profile bids from Chelsea in the summer, with the last estimated to be worth around £40 million. However, all were refused by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, despite Modric refusing to play in the 3-0 defeat to Manchester United.
Now Levy will attempt to prevent the 26-year-old’s head being turned in the summer with the new deal, conditional on Champion’s League qualification this term, which would make Modric the highest earner in the Tottenham squad. By way of contrast, Gareth Bale is thought to be on a contract worth around £70,000 per week.
