The Stadium of Light plays host to a game of two struggling sides as inconsistent Sunderland host desperate Wigan.
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce was desperately unlucky not to get anything from their fixture against Fulham last weekend. A 0-0 draw was played out in front of the Black Cats faithful and Sunderland hit the woodwork twice. There are no real injury concerns for the Black Cats and the main positive is the return to full training of striker Fraizer Campbell after a 15 month absence.
Wigan had the same fortune as their weekend opponents in their 3-3 draw with Blackburn. A controversial goal by Rovers from a corner saw them succumb their lead and Roberto Martinez must feel that his luck has to change sometime. The Latics have only one win this season and are without defender Antolin Alcaraz again, who is serving the second game of a three game suspension.
Both sides are craving for points and with Wigan’s poor away form, scoring only twice away from the DW Stadium, Sunderland must feel they have the better opportunity. A draw seems inevitable, which is not a good result for either side.
