Van Persie has been released from Holland manager Bert van Maarwijk’s squad after a request from the Arsenal boss to stop his captain fatiguing. The 28 year old has been injury prone the past few seasons and Wenger is eager to preserve a player who has been in scintillating form for the Gunners so far. The Dutch forward, who has 17 goals in 21 appearances in all competitions so far this season, played 90 minutes in Holland’s goalless draw with Switzerland, but will not play on Tuesday night against Germany.
Van Persie will be needed for Arsenal in what could be a pivotal few weeks in their season, where they have a Carling Cup quarter-final against Manchester City amid tough league fixtures.
