Van der Vaart plays down Spurs title challenge suggestions

Tottenham playmaker Rafael van der Vaart has played down suggestions that they could win the league this season.

Since losing to Manchester United and Manchester City in their opening two Premier League fixtures this year, Spurs have gone eight games unbeaten, leaving them in fifth position with a game in hand, which, if won, could take them up to third.

Speaking to talkSPORT, van der Vaart said: “We didn’t play like somebody who wants to win the title, when we play well, like against QPR then we have a fantastic team.

“We fought until the end against Fulham, but they were the better team. That’s football, and if we can keep on winning these kind of games then we have a good chance to be in the top four. Our ambition is to finish in the top four, we’ve always had that.”
