Villas-Boas happy with Blackburn win

Frank Lampard’s 51st minute strike gave Chelsea a 1-0 victory over struggling Blackburn yesterday, maintaining their place at 4th spot in the league. Blackburn had their chances to cancel out Lampard’s close range header but failed to make any of them pay.

Talking to the BBC after the game, manager Andre Villas-Boas reflected on the importance of the win following two consecutive league defeats before the trip to Ewood Park. “It’s been a really tough week for us so we wanted to get back to winning ways and that’s what we’ve done. We have come to a difficult place and got the points we wanted. Hopefully we can build on this.”

Chelsea were not at their fluent best in the game, but managed to hang on with goalkeeper Petr Cech playing on with a broken nose after a lengthy stoppage to receive treatment.
