Villas-Boas rejects claims that Terry got booked on purpose

Andre Villas-Boas has denied that defender John Terry got himself deliberately booked in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Wolves on Saturday, The Sun reports.

Terry was booked for time-wasting over a throw in, which means that he misses the Carling Cup quarter-final tie with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday. Many believe that the card was used so that Terry would not be suspended for any crunch December league games, but the Chelsea boss insists that was not the case.

Villas-Boas said: ‘Terry got a yellow card from a throw-in. Ashley Cole was looking for was looking for the best options and couldn’t find any so Terry’s out on Tuesday. It wasn’t a deliberate yellow card, as they’re not allowed by UEFA. Frank Lampard was also on four yellow card and we didn’t force it’.

Terry is now available to lead Chelsea into their tricky December schedule, where they face league leaders Manchester City as well as in-form Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.
