Welbeck set to sign new Man Utd deal

Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck is expected to sign a new five year contract with the club, according to The Sun.

Welbeck spent last season on loan at Sunderland and performed well. Since his arrival back at Old Trafford this season, the striker has performed brilliantly and earned himself a place in the senior England squad. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been seen preferring the England international to record signing Dimitar Berbatov. The 20 year old will sit down with club officials in the next month to rubberstamp the plans for a £45,000 a week deal.

Welbeck has 18 months left on his existing deal where he earns £15,000 a week before bonuses. Welbeck is expected to sit out tonight’s clash with Portuguese side Benfica in the Champions League and United are seeking a win to go top of the group and try and avoid the big sides in the next phase.
