Bayer Leverkusen have contacted Manchester United over a possible move to re-sign striker Dimitar Berbatov, according to the Daily
Berbatov spent five seasons with Leverkusen before moving to Tottenham in 2006. The Bulgarian then made the switch to Old Trafford and despite being the club’s top scorer last season, Berbatov has failed to hold down a first team place this season. Berbatov scored a hat-trick on Boxing Day against Wigan and is expected to hold his place for Sunday’s game against Blackburn..
Leverkusen are extremely fond of Berbatov and according to Berbatov’s representative, the two parties have been in contact over a move for the 30 year old. Berbatov’s contract is up in the summer and it is unsure whether United will be prepared to extend the deal or accept a move in January to receive money.
Ivan Dobrinov, Berbatov’s agent, said: ‘It’s more than a rumour. Leverkusen have it on their minds to get Berbatov. There is contact, but nothing concrete yet. It all depends on United’s plans. The player has never forgotten Leverkusen, the club is still very dear to him. Furthermore, he has a good relationship with the leadership at Bayer’.
