Nicolas Anelka quits Chelsea this weekend and is still seething over the club’s decision to omit him from the Christmas party, according to The
Anelka leaves Stamford Bridge to join Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua, where he is reportedly earning £175,000 a week. The French striker was overlooked for last week’s dinner at the club’s Cobham training ground and is fuming with the way the club has acted. Chelsea put on the banquet for the first team squad, reserves and management, hiring waitresses for the special occasion.
One friend of the striker, who has spent nearly five years at Chelsea, described the omission as an ‘insult’ and admitted Anelka felt aggrieved after playing a big part in the club’s history. Anelka won the Barclays Premier League title and picked up two FA Cups following his move from Bolton. Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas accepted the Frenchman’s transfer request this month and froze Anelka from first-team opportunities. The Portuguese manager ordered Anelka to empty his locker, park their vehicles in the community car park and change for training in the academy facilities.
The Frenchman has signed a two year deal with the wealthy Chinese side, but intends to return to England after the deal. Shanghai will be the ninth professional club of Anelka’s career and the 32 year old has told friends he will retire in England.
