Arsenal have been pitted against seven times Champions League winners AC Milan in the last 16 of the competition, BBC
The Gunners face one of the sternest tests of the round in the Italian champions and will have to travel to the San Siro in the second leg. Home advantage could be crucial for Arsenal and they will take confidence from their meeting with Milan in 2008, where they knocked out the then holders of the trophy. Arsenal club secretary David Miles has called the fixture ‘the tie of the round’, but was hoping to avoid Milan in order to ensure progression.
Miles said: ‘It’s probably the pick of the round. They’ll be two fantastic games. If I’m being honest, there are some other teams I would have preferred. Last time we played them in season 07-08, we actually went through after winning 2-0 in the San Siro so our recent history against them is good’.
Arsenal will play the first leg at the Emirates Stadium in late February with the return leg coming in early march. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will look to have his squad back in place with the returning Jack Wilshere and Andre Santos in the line-up.
