Arsenal target free transfer move for Academica star

Ederzito has emerged as a potential signing for Arsenal without the club having to spend a penny, according to Metro.

The forward is available on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season. Ederzito plays for Portuguese side Academica and turns 24 next week, which allows him to move without the Gunners paying compensation. Arsenal are aware of the situation and boss Arsene Wenger has sent chief scout Steve Rowley to Portugal to watch the Guinean star.

Portuguese champions Porto are also interested in Ederzito’s signature and the Gunners will have competition to bring the 23 year old to North London. Gunners striker Marouane Chamakh is expected to leave the club either in January or the summer and with the problems over Robin van Persie’s contract, Wenger needs to find a replacement striker. Ederzito has been impressive in the league so far this season and has told Academica that he wants to move somewhere else.

The Premier League could be a possibility for the powerfully-built forward and Ederzito believes he has the ability to succeed. His rapidly growing talent and name across Europe may force the Gunners to act quickly to secure his services, before the likes of Porto and other European sides make their moves.
