Aurelio sets sights on first-team spot

Liverpool defender Fabio Aurelio insists he will fight for his role in the Reds squad and help their quest for honours in 2012, reports.

The Brazilian full-back is currently out with a calf injury and has seen his teammate Jose Enrique star at left-back all season. Aurelio is upbeat despite the calf problem and believes he can feature for the Reds in the second half of the season. The defender has yet to make an appearance for the Reds this season, but is expectant that he will be back in plans once his injury has become resolved.

Liverpool have been in form so far this season and the Brazilian has recognised the outstanding job his teammates have done. Aurelio has called on the arrival of new faces as why Liverpool are only in sixth position and says that the club have adapted to the signings and will push on up the table.

Aurelio said: ‘I still have six months of contract here and I hope to finish the season off in a better way than it has started. The performances (from the side) haven’t been so bad because of the opportunities we have been creating, but the ball hasn’t been going in the net. I think we will keep going and if we create the same number of chances in the future, the goals will come’.
