Barcelona open the door to David Villa move

A report in Marca says the relationship between Barcelona and David Villa could be coming to an end just 18 months after his €40m signing from Valencia in July, 2010. It says the Asturian-born 30-year-old has been put on the market and Barca are hoping to find a buyer for him next summer, although if a suitable offer arrives in the winter transfer market he will be allowed to leave before then.

Nicknamed ‘El Guaje’(‘The Kid’ in Asturian), Villa has a four-year contract at the Camp Nou at a salary of €7m-a-year but he appears to have fallen out of favour with boss Pep Guardiola this campaign, having made 15 appearances but crucially only having started in eight.

His 49 league games for Barca have yielded an impressive 23 goals, yet his future is looking increasingly likely to be in the Premier League, with Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa all having shown an interest in him. Kenny Dalglish is thought to be particularly keen to take him to Liverpool but Chelsea may be favourites in any bidding war as their economic proposals would be far superior to those on offer at Anfield.
