Benayoun looking for first-team Arsenal spot

Arsenal midfielder Yossi Benayoun is keen to improve his role at the Emirates Stadium and fight for a first team place, according to the Metro.

The Israeli was signed on loan from Chelsea in the summer transfer window, but has not made as many appearances as first expected. Benayoun scored the only goal for the Gunners in their 3-1 midweek defeat to Olympiacos, but that was only his fifth start since the move across London. Given the current form of Arsenal’s midfield, Benayoun cannot complain about being on the bench and is looking to keep pushing for a spot in the first XI.

Benayoun said: ‘Every time I have a chance, I try to do my best. The team is playing well. They say you don’t change a winning side and we are on a good run, so it is very difficult to get in. The only thing I can do is wait for any chance I get. It doesn’t matter if it is 15 minutes or I get to start, I have to prove myself any chance I get’.

Benayoun is expected to be back on the bench for the weekend’s clash with Everton despite his good performance in Athens. The Gunners are eager to keep pushing up the table and get into the top four in the Premier League.
