Benzema emerges as Arsenal target

Karim Benzema has emerged as a transfer target for Arsenal amid concerns about the depth of the centre forwards at the club, The Daily Mail reports.

The Real Madrid striker is top of Arsene Wenger’s transfer list and with the Frenchman’s worry over the future of Robin Van Persie, who is out of contract in 18 months, Benzema could be brought into North London. Madrid have been linked with a summer swoop for Van Persie and if the Dutchman does not commit to a new deal with the club, Arsenal could swap Van Persie with Benzema.

Benzema has 14 goals in 23 appearances and Wenger tried to sign the French international when he was playing at Lyon. Madrid beat him to the signature, but Wenger believes he can test the resolve of the La Liga side and sign his compatriot.

Gunners forward Marouane Chamakh is also looking for a move away from Arsenal and has been linked with former club Bordeaux. Wenger will be keen to bring in recruitments if both Van Persie and Chamakh do leave the club.
