Blackburn vs West Brom – Match preview and prediction

Struggling Blackburn face West Brom at Ewood Park on Saturday a year on from Steve Kean’s first game in charge of Rovers.

Blackburn have struggled since that day and Kean has only won six games in his time at Ewood Park. The Blackburn fans are unhappy with their Scottish manager and protests still rumble on with another one planned for the weekend’s game with Albion. Junior Hoilett and Martin Olsson are both expected to miss out with hamstring injuries. Steven N’Zonzi returns from suspension and Gael Givet is a doubt after suffering heart palpitations against Sunderland last weekend. Rovers threw away a lead to lose 2-1 against the Black Cats late on and Kean was criticised for his negative tactics. Blackburn will be looking to get a vital home win in their fight against relegation.

West Brom visit Ewood Park with former Rovers manager Roy Hodgson. Hodgson led Blackburn to sixth in the table in his only full season in charge and has fond memories of his time in Lancashire, despite the club sacking him the following season. Former Rovers midfielder Steven Reid is a doubt to face his old side with a knee problem. The Baggies were beaten by relegation strugglers Wigan at the Hawthorns last weekend and defeat against Rovers could see them slip further into a survival fight. In-form midfielder Chris Brunt looks set to make his 250th career league start.

Blackburn are in desperate need of three points, but face a West Brom side who have only one won out of their last six games. Hodgson’s side should get all three points on their manager’s old stomping ground and throw Rovers further into the mire at the foot of the Premier League table.
