Champions League draw – Chelsea and Arsenal face Italian test

The draw for the second round of the Champions League has seen two Italy vs England clashes.

Arsenal face a tough trip to AC Milan whilst Chelsea have to travel to Napoli. The draw was made in the Swiss city of Nyon and the Gunners will be confident of winning in the San Siro. Arsene Wenger masterminded an Arsenal victory in 2008 against Milan, who were the holders from the previous season.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas will face a hostile crowd in Naples and a Napoli side brimming with confidence. Walter Mazzari’s side finished second in their group, usurping Manchester City along the way, and the Blues will have to be wary of Napoli if they want to progress.

Elsewhere, reigning champions Barcelona travel to Bayer Leverkusen in search of their fifth Champions League title. Barcelona’s rivals for La Liga, Real Madrid, face a lengthy journey to Russia to take on CSKA Moscow. Both Barca and Madrid have been tipped for the trophy this season and should fancy themselves to progress from these two ties.

Basel, conquerors of Manchester United, have been rewarded with a tie against German giants Bayern Munich. The Swiss side last made the knockout phases of the tournament in 1973 and under now permanent manager Heiko Vogel, they have belief that they can cause an upset against Bayern.

The three other ties see Lyon face surprise side Apoel Nicosia, Zenit square up to Portuguese giants Benfica and Marseille take on the 2009 champions Inter Milan. The first legs will be played on the 14/15th and the 21/22nd of February, with the second legs coming on the 6/7th and the 13/14th March.
