Chelsea get Portsmouth in FA Cup draw

Chelsea have been drawn at home to Portsmouth in the third round of the FA Cup in a repeat of the 2010 final, BBC Sport reports.

The Blues take on the 2008 winners on the 7th or 8th January 2012 and will be eager to lay a marker to the rest of the competition. Portsmouth currently sit 18th in the Championship and have just changed manager to inexperienced Michael Appleton. They are also suffering from boardroom and financial troubles once again and Chelsea will look to progress through to the fourth round comfortably.

Andre Villas-Boas will get his first taste of FA Cup football and will be keen to win a trophy in his first season as Chelsea manager. Portsmouth were beaten in the 2010 final by a Didier Drogba free-kick and will be looking for a cup upset, just like the time they went and won the competition in 2009.

On their way to glory in 2009, Portsmouth beat Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford and they will look to inflict similar damage on Chelsea. The Blues should be too strong for them and should rotate their squad with the tie coming off the back of a difficult December period. Chelsea face Valencia, Manchester City, Tottenham and a West London derby with Fulham this month.
