Chelsea have revealed that Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien is still at least a month away from being available for first team selection, Sky
Essien picked up a cruciate knee ligament injury during pre-season and has not featured during the current campaign after being ruled out for six months.
He had been hoping to recover in time to play for his country in January’s African Cup of Nations, but Blues manager Andre Villas-Boas says this will not be possible.
“There was a setback at the beginning of December if I’m not wrong which took him back 10 days and that’s extended into January, so I don’t think he will go to the African Cup of Nations,” said Villas-Boas. “We’re looking at mid-January, that’s the best we can think about.”
