Chelsea to offer Lampard swap for Modric

Chelsea are set to offer Tottenham their talismanic midfielder Frank Lampard as a makeweight in their efforts to sign Croatian star Luka Modric, the Daily Mirror reports. The Blues remain keen on Modric and are expected to formally renew their interest in the January transfer window.

Chelsea had made three reported bids for Modric in the summer, but were turned down on each occasion by Spurs manager Harry Redknapp and Chairman Daniel Levy alike. However the offer of England midfielder Lampard on top of any potential fee may prove too lucrative for the club to turn down.

Amongst heavy speculation linking Modric with Chelsea as well as Manchester United in the summer, the Spurs playmaker had apparently stated his desire to move across London to Stamford Bridge, but it fell on deaf ears at White Hart Lane with the club intent on keeping him for the season at least.
