‘Chelsea will start favourites’ says Valencia keeper Diego Alves

Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves believes Chelsea will start favourites going into the Champions League fixture at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, although he says that “once the game commences then anything can happen’.

A goalless draw or a victory would take the London club through to the next round while Valencia need a win or a score draw to progress and Alves said: “It is a very important match and will be like a cup final but we are going there very hopeful. Everything will be decided on the night and it is our most important match of the season so far.”

Valencia’s record on the road in the Champions League this term has resulted in a draw at Genk and defeat against Leverkusen, the same outcome as Chelsea, so it is now down to the wire and the Brazilian added: “We know we can get any result away from home as we are confident and have been playing well. This match will be different because it is against a very high quality side and it will be hard, but we can come away having qualified for the next round.”
