Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley insists that the club never doubted they couldn’t catch Manchester City, The
Cleverley is currently out with an ankle injury and had to watch from the side as United crashed out of Europe last week. Their 6-1 humiliation at Old Trafford against City prompted many to suggest that the Premier League champions would not catch Roberto Mancini’s men. However, City’s defeat to Chelsea on Monday night saw United go just two points behind City.
United travel to QPR this weekend and can go top of the table if they beat the West Londoners. City play Arsenal in the evening kick-off and United are on at lunchtime, which will give another confidence lift to the Old Trafford side. Cleverley says his teammates never lost their faith and the team spirit within the club is absolutely fantastic.
The United midfielder said: ‘Monday was their first slip-up of the season, but we were always confident we could catch them. It’s going to be an interesting weekend. We’ve got a great team spirit, so if anyone can bounce back from disappointment, it would be our squad’.
