Cologne have issued a firm hands-off warning to any potential suitors over striker Lukas Podolski, The
Podolski has emerged as a January transfer target for Arsenal, who are keen to bring in another forward to strengthen their side. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger stated earlier this week that he was not looking to bring in January signings, unless a ‘fantastic’ player was offered to him. Many consider the German international to be ‘fantastic’, but Cologne are uninterested in letting the 26 year old move. Cologne sporting director Volker Finke said: ‘There were no numbers on a possible transfer or period when the transfer should take place. But that does not matter. We want to extend his contract’.
Podolski is under contract until June 2013, but is eager to play Champions League football and is hoping for a move to a bigger European side. Arsenal tick that box and despite interest from Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow, the Gunners would be the favourites to sign the German international. Cologne, for the moment, have closed the door, but if Podolski does not sign a new deal, he could make the switch to North London.
