Coquelin wants Arsenal stay

Arsenal youngster Francis Coquelin has stated that he wants to stay at the Emirates Stadium and prove his worth, talkSPORT reports.

The 20 year old has seen interest from French champions Lille and LOSC were looking to make a move in the January transfer window. There is a healthy competition for places in the Arsenal midfield and Coquelin impressed Gunners boss Arsene Wenger in last month’s Carling Cup tie with Manchester City. The Frenchman is eager to stay and fight for his place, instead of making a loan switch to a club in the New Year.

Coquelin said: ‘It is good that Lille want me and they are a great club. If an offer arrives we will see what happens but I would rather be focused on Arsenal as I think I can do good things here. I have learned a lot in training every day with great players and I have progresses this year. I think I have shown Wenger I have a chance. At 20, I think I can be useful to Arsenal.’

Coquelin is contracted with Arsenal until 2013, but faces a problem moving Mikel Arteta, Alex Song, Aaron Ramsey or the returning Jack Wilshere from the Arsenal midfield. Coquelin could be involved with the squad that travels to Eastlands this Sunday in a crunch clash with league leaders Manchester City.
