Ahead of Stewart Downing’s return to Aston Villa on Sunday with Liverpool, his manager Kenny Dalglish has insisted that the England winger was worth the £20m transfer fee paid out for him, despite recent criticism of Liverpool and Dalglish’s spending.
Downing will be expecting a hostile reception at Villa Park as last year’s Aston Villa player of the year left the club in the summer despite having stated a desire to stay at the club.
