Dalglish has injury worries ahead of Wigan clash

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has ruled out three players from the Wednesday fixture against Wigan, liverpoolfc.tv reports.

Dalglish’s side travel to the DW Stadium off the back of an impressive 2-0 win over Aston Villa at the weekend. Reds captain Steven Gerrard has been tipped to return over the festive period, but will not be available against Wigan. The 31 year old has been ruled out with an ankle infection since October and is close to full fitness. Gerrard is joined on the sidelines by defenders Jack Robinson and Fabio Aurelio, but Dalglish has no other problems.

The Reds boss said: ‘We don’t have any problems, apart from Jack Robinson, (Steven) Gerrard and Fabio (Aurelio) as well. The longer term ones aren’t in the squad. It remains to be seen (whether Gerrard will play over Christmas), but we won’t be making any comments on it.’

Dalglish admitted earlier this week that he had feared for Gerrard’s career following the infection. The England international is back in training after the problem and Dalglish has praised the medical team at the club for dealing with the situation. Gerrard has targetted the New Year as his comeback for the Reds and could feature in the Carling Cup semi-final against Manchester City.
