Villa fractured a tibia in his left leg after falling awkwardly in the 4-1 win over Qatari side Al-Sadd, and Del Bosque told Europa Press: “The news is very bad, awful, but mainly for the player as he is the one who has been injured. But with regard to Euro 2012 it is certainly bad news for us. However, there are still six months to go until we name the squad so let’s see how things go. Some players heal very quickly and others take a little longer.”
Del Bosque said he will finalise his list of players on May 15 and training would commence five days later, with a replacement brought in if Villa does not make it. “We have time ahead of us,” he insisted. “We have to take 23 players so we have time to think about it, but we will wait and see. First we have to talk to the doctors, who know more about what happened and how the injury is, because not all tibias are the same. We will wait to hear what the doctors have to say.”
