Manchester United defender Jonny Evans is hoping his side can move on quickly from the midweek humiliation against Crystal Palace, Metro
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson apologised to the fans after Palace claimed a 2-1 scalp in extra-time against the Premier League champions at Old Trafford. Evans was captain on the night and his future has been in doubt following the performance, as well as his inability to hold down a regular place in the United starting line-up.
The Northern Ireland international is now concentrating on the weekend’s trip to Aston Villa and believes that with the experience in the squad, the club can bounce back. Evans is expected to be dropped for the Villa game with defenders Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand returning.
Evans said: ‘We’re very disappointed. I thought we would go on after we scored. But they went down the other end and scored against the run of play. We had a lot of possession, but couldn’t break them down. I was delighted to be given the armband, but I’d happily take that away to have the victory. The games are coming thick and fast and the manager will need his squad. So we need to pick ourselves up and win on Saturday’.
