Ferguson admits Man Utd interest in Peterborough defender

Manchester United are monitoring the progress of Peterborough’s Ryan Bennett with a view to signing the defender, Sky Sports reports.

The England under 21 international joined Posh from Grimsby Town in 2009 and has emerged as one of the rising talents in the Championship. Posh manager Darren Ferguson is the son of Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who is eager to sign Bennett. The Posh manager has confirmed that his father is keen on the 21 year old defender.

Ferguson junior said: ‘I spoke to my dad and he likes Ryan Bennett, always has. I can understand the interest. It’s no secret that a lot of clubs are looking at Ryan. I’m staying silent on who exactly is interested, but unless we get a massive offer, there is no way the chairman would sell.’

United’s attraction of Champions League football could sway Bennett to make the move north to Manchester, but Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony has other ideas. He tweeted that his club is not a selling club and despite the interest, Bennett may not leave.
