Ferguson backs Rooney to continue success

Wayne Rooney ended his Premier League goal drought with a delightful double against Wolves, BBC Sport reports.

Rooney scored a lovely side footed finish from the edge of the box in the first half and then a sweetly-struck half volley in the second half. United ran out 4-1 winners and got back to form following their Champions League exit against Basle midweek. Sir Alex Ferguson believes that his striker is back in full flow and will be inspiring towards United’s pursuit of league leaders Manchester City. Rooney has 11 league goals of the campaign, but had not scored since his strike against Chelsea on September 18th.

The United boss was also delighted with the way his side attacked and believes they need to improve their goal tally. ‘Sometimes strikers do go in spurts and hopefully, that is Wayne on one of those really good spurts of his. We are well pleased with the performance and the win. We worked our socks off in Basle and didn’t get a break. Our attacking play was terrific’, Ferguson said.
