Ferguson has praise for Tottenham challenge

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has praised the way Tottenham Hotspur have started the season, The Sunday People reports.

Spurs have recovered well since their slow start, where United beat them 3-0 at Old Trafford. Harry Redknapp’s men saw their 11 game unbeaten run snapped against Stoke last weekend and they were unlucky according to the United boss. Spurs face Sunderland at 3pm looking for other results to go their way so they can close the gap once again. Ferguson has been impressed with the way Redknapp has the North Londoners playing and believes they have a realistic ambition to challenge for honours.

Ferguson said: ‘Tottenham have been the most impressive team. They were unlucky last Sunday at Stoke, but if they win their game in hand, they are still in there. And for me, Spurs have been playing the best football in the Premier League for the last eight games. They look confident and dangerous and I have been very impressed with them’.

United are looking to keep pace with Manchester City at the top of the table, but have to be cautious of the teams catching them. Ferguson has been down the road before in close title races and stated that: ‘If you want to win the league, you have to make sure you don’t lose as many points as your rivals around you. That’s what the second half of the season will be about’.
