Ferguson plans to sell off squad players in January

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to wield the axe over his squad following their disappointing performance against Crystal Palace midweek, The Daily Mail reports.

Ferguson was left fuming after his fringe players were beaten in the quarter finals of the Carling Cup on Wednesday. The United manager apologised to the fans and is now looking into throwing a few of his under-performers out of the door in January. Ferguson ordered the bulk of his squad in for extra training following the game and was livid with the performance.

With growing concerns over his side’s stuttering form and realistic ambitions of catching league leaders Manchester City, Ferguson has concluded that his squad needs some serious reshaping to keep pace with City. Mancini’s squad side were too good for Arsenal in midweek and they showed that they have an impressive squad, whereas Ferguson’s side were poor and need work.

Players who face exit in January include midfielder Darron Gibson, striker Dimitar Berbatov, goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak, defender Jonny Evans and a whole host of young players on loan. Ferguson is expected to speak with the Glazer family over the possibility of bringing in some new players in January, such as Udinese defender Mehdi Benatia and Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Goetze.
