Gunners confident of holding onto van Persie

Arsenal have again reiterated their positivity over the future of Robin Van Persie at the club, the Daily Star reports.

Van Persie’s form this season has inspired the Gunners back up the table following a horrendous start. The Dutchman has 33 Premier League goals in 32 games so far this year and has put a host of top European sides on alert for his services. Van Persie’s current deal runs out in 18 months and the Arsenal captain will wait until the end of the season, see Arsenal’s position in the league and then make his decision.

The Gunners have put negotiations on hold to tie in with Van Persie’s thoughts and Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has stated that he is unconcerned with the situation. Spanish giants Real Madrid have been interested in the 28 year old and are prepared to test Van Persie’s resolve with a bid to the Gunners.

Hill-Wood said: ‘I think Robin wants to stay. He seems very happy. Nothing has been discussed, though it is obvious we want him to stay. He doesn’t want to talk about a contract now and that’s fine with us’.
