Glenn Hoddle has chosen Manchester City playmaker David Silva as his stand-out star of the Premier League season so far.
Silva has helped City gain a five point lead at the top of the Premier League table and they face a particularly tricky fixture against Hoddle’s old side Chelsea on Monday night. Hoddle played in the same vein that City’s Spanish international does and has appreciated the way Silva’s talents have revitalised a City side many thought were boring.
The Premier League leaders have blown away oppositions so far this season, including a 6-1 win away against local rivals Manchester United. Silva was instrumental in that game, scoring one and setting up a handful for his teammates, and Hoddle believes that Silva’s knowledge of the game makes him better than anybody else.
Hoddle said: ‘David Silva is top of my list. The thing anyone wanting to make it as a professional needs to remember is it’s about how you see a picture and this lad sees it quicker than anyone else. He sees everyone on the pitch and he’s got the ability with it to pick people out. You just can’t defend against that. He hurts the opposition with the ball and has really stood out for me’.
