Jones eyes Man Utd return against Blackburn

Phil Jones is eyeing a return to the Manchester United side against former side Blackburn on Saturday following a facial injury, manutd.com reports.

The defender suffered the blow in a collision with Fulham forward Clint Dempsey and was expected to return to action on Boxing Day against Wigan. Jones then suffered with illness, but has recovered and is back in contention for a place against Blackburn. The 19 year old moved from Ewood Park to Old Trafford this summer and admits it will be ‘very weird’ to play the child he supported as a boy.

Rovers are rooted to the bottom of the table and Jones has stated that he feels sad to see his former club there. A defeat at Old Trafford will add further misery to Blackburn’s hopes of surviving the dreaded drop. Blackburn will be looking for a better result than the 7-1 drubbing they received at Old Trafford last season.

Jones said: ‘I’m still a massive fan – as soon as we come off the pitch, I always look to see how Blackburn have got on. I still have a lot of friends at the club. I’m sure they’ll kick on and things will improve. They’re a lot better than their league position shows. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, they’re at the bottom of the table now. We won’t find it easy though. It’s going to be tough. I know what sort of squad Blackburn have and there are some cracking players there’.
